Wow! What a final day!
When I posted my update yesterday, reviewing our AMAZING 23 STRETCH GOAL ACHIEVEMENTS, I was hoping to hit one more before the end.
Well, we added one more that same day!
[ALL BACKERS] At $161,000 funding – Scion: Masks of the Mythos VTT Tokens – Digital assets for the signature characters and key antagonists from Scion: Masks of the Mythos will be created and added to the rewards list for all backers.
And then, last night, we were looking at the longshot possibility of maybe even hitting one more goal. And after lots of discussion with backers and the team, we also talked about tweaking the order of those last two goals, to prioritize additional rules and guidelines for Scion: Masks of the Mythos.
I was hoping that a bunch of dominoes would fall our way and maybe - maybe - if we got really lucky and the word reached enough people in those final hours, we could somehow add a 25th Stretch Goal.
Well...
We did it!
[MYTHOS] At $167,000 funding – Scion: Masks of the Mythos Companion - Demigod Tier Play – A section on playing Scions of the Mythos at Demigod level, and enemies to oppose Scions of Demigod tiers, such as Dagon and Masks of the Old Ones, will be created and added to the Scion: Masks of the Mythos Companion PDF.
With just a short time left, I know we're not likely to hit that final target, but after seeing the response these past few hours, I'm not ready to rule anything out!
[DRAGON] At $167,000 funding –Scion: Dragon Scenario – A new scenario for Scion: Dragon will be created added to the Scion: Dragon Companion PDF.
Regardless of where we finish, this entire campaign has been amazing, and these past few hours simply tremendous!

With that in mind, I wanted to touch on some of the basics over the next 4 days to make sure that everyone has all of the information they need to support the project in the way that works best for them.

BACKER REWARD TIERS
Like it says right at the top of the campaign page, we've come together to help create fully developed PDFs and traditionally printed game books featuring two different paths for a Scion Second Edition game.
Scion: Dragon presents an alternate pathway, veering away from the more traditional route presented in Scion: Hero. It builds on the rules presented in Scion: Origin and allows you to awaken the dragon inside of your character, becoming an Heir.
Scion: Masks of the Mythos, on the other hand, takes the traditional path presented in Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero and twists it by adding odd new flavors and strange alien spices to reveal a shadow world that grants additional powers, but at a cost.
To borrow an analogy that I've used in past Kickstarter campaigns, this process we're a part of works similar to the "Viewers Like You" support campaign from your local Public Broadcasting Station (for those who get American television channels or watched Sesame Street in the pre-HBO era): There are various levels of support that you can pledge to, and these come with various levels of rewards offered as a thank you. Like getting a tote bag or t-shirt when you give money to public broadcasting to fund them doing their thing, you can get rewards for helping Onyx Path work on this project.
Let's review the Backer Reward Tiers to ensure that you've pledged to a Reward Tier that provides all the rewards you wish to receive.
Picking A Path: Dragon or Mythos
The first step in choosing a reward tier is knowing which path you'd like to explore.
Are you interested in the secret history of the Dragons, the surprise third faction in the battle between the Titans and the Gods? Do you want to be an Heir, carrying out clandestine missions, learning magic, and building a lair? Do you follow the Dragon path?
Or do you want to know the unknowable, exploring the unrecognizable alien entities that circle from a shadowy distance. Do you want to play a Scion who may have access to these powers that come with a terrible trade-off? Do you follow the Mythos path?
There is, of course, a third option: Why not both? Are you ready to add new elements and new avenues to your game, taking the bits that work for you and building your own stories? Do you follow the Dual path?
Exploring Your Options: Digital Only or Hardcover + PDF
The main rewards offered in this campaign are, of course, the main goal of the entire proposition: the Scion: Dragon and Scion: Masks of the Mythos books. The second decision you need to make in figuring out your reward tier is whether you want to receive the PDF versions or if you want the hardcover books.
These are PDF-only reward tiers. So, if you're saving trees or saving shelf space - or avoiding the shipping charges that seem to be ever-increasing - these are the reward tier options that you should begin with. The PDF will be fulfilled by our partners at DriveThruRPG.com - when it is ready, you will receive a link to add it to your DTRPG library at no cost and be able to download at your leisure.
HARDCOVER+PDF REWARD TIERS:
Mythos Hardcover Book
Mythos Hardcover Suite
Dragon Hardcover Book
Dragon Hardcover Suite
Mythos + Dragon Hardcover Combo
Mythos + Dragon + Scion Hardcover Suite
These reward tiers include the traditionally-printed hardcover versions of these books. That means the books are produced in a larger offset print run at one time, and will have the best production values, from color clarity and appearance to binding and materials. In addition, these options also include the PDF versions, so you will get a digital copy as described above.
Scion Second Edition
All of the "Suite" Pledge Tiers include the Scion Second Edition rulebooks needed for play, the core books that form the foundation for your Scion: Dragon or Scion: Masks of the Mythos games.
Since Scion: Masks of the Mythos builds on both Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero, the Mythos Suites include copies of both of those books in the same formats you've chosen for your Masks of the Mythos reward. If you've pledged to a tier that offers the Scion: Masks of the Mythos hardcover book, you'll receive hardcover copies of Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero as part of the same reward shipment. And just like our main rewards, the PDF for each book is included in all path tiers.
Similarly, since Scion: Dragon follows Scion: Origin, the Dragon Suites include copies of just that core book in the same format you've chosen to receive your Dragon reward. If you've pledged to a tier that includes the Scion: Dragon hardcover book, you'll receive a hardcover copy of Scion: Origin as part of your rewards shipment. And just like our main rewards, the PDF is included in all path tiers.
And, yeah, there's also the Retail Tiers if you're a pre-approved retail backer!
The only Reward Tier that does not include the PDF versions of the books is the Scion Supporter tier. You should select this Reward Tier if you want to support the project and maybe participate in the Pledge Manager but do not currently wish to receive either a PDF or hardcover version of these books.
PLEDGE MANAGERACCESS - After the campaign is over we'll launch BackerKit, our post-campaign pledge manager, and invite the backers to set up their rewards via survey. This allows you to confirm your pledge and add on anything that you might have missed, as well as possibly increasing your pledged reward tier, should you choose to expand your reward selection. This option will give international backers additional time to investigate shipping options, should they choose, knowing they can confirm a physical reward at a later date. Funding collected in BackerKit after the campaign does not count toward any campaign Stretch Goals, however.
You'll note those columns way on the right - Access to the Manuscript Previews and Full Access to Pledge Manager - are included in ALL reward tiers. That's just one of the perks of participating in this kickstarter campaign!
MANUSCRIPT PREVIEWS – All Reward Tiers include access to Backers-Only manuscript previews. With the exception of the final Scion: Dragon chapters (which will be posted on Tuesday), I have posted the entire manuscripts across multiple sections. You must be a kickstarter backer to access these previews, as the link will remain in a backers-only update post. The manuscript previews may not be available to those who pre-order the book at a later date.
OPTIONAL DISCOUNTED PoD VERSION – For this Scion:Dragon and Scion: Masks of the Mythos campaign, you will have the option of using DriveThruRPG.com’s Print-On-Demand service to purchase a physical, printed copy of the PDF books included in your list of rewards directly from their PoD partners at discounted cost (as close as we can get to the cost of printing and shipping;this cost is not included in your pledge, and you do not need to increase the cost of your pledge to use this option). When the PoD versions are available to order (which will be some time after the books have gone to print), you will receive links to purchase these versions of the books from DriveThruRPG.com. You DO NOT need to take advantage of this PoD offer as it does not affect in any way your pledge rewards.
SCION:DRAGON and SCION: MASKS OF THE MYTHOSPDF VERSIONS - The digital versions of Dragon and Masks of the Mythos, fulfilled by our partners at DriveThruRPG.com. Kickstarter backers will receive a redemption link for an early version, before it goes on sale to the public. This initial "Backer Version" will be used to get feedback from the fans to make the final version the best that it can be. When it has been updated to the final version, it will be automatically added to your DriveThruRPG library and available for download at your convenience.
SCION:DRAGON and SCION: MASKS OF THE MYTHOSTHARDCOVER VERSION - The main goal of this campaign is to fund the creation, production, and print run of these awesome books. Note that all Reward Tiers that include a Hardcover version also include the PDF version as a bonus. Additional shipping charges are automatically added to your pledge by Kickstarter, based on your delivery location.
SCION: ORIGIN PDF and HARDCOVER - Scion is a game about Gods and humanity, and everything in between. It’s a game about mythic Deeds and the reasons people talk about those mythic Deeds. Scion: Origin details the Scions when they’re still (mostly) human, before the Visitation that introduces them to the divine World — they’re exceptional humans, perhaps, blessed with luck and skill or cursed with ill fortune and strange trials in their lives, but humans nonetheless.
SCION: HERO PDF and HARDCOVER - Scion: Hero details the children of the Gods when they have been touched by the divine, awakening to the miraculous power their parents wield. But this great power comes with grave responsibility. The Scions must negotiate both the human World and the divine one, acting as intermediaries and shielding the worshippers of their parents from harm. Can they struggle to fulfill their Fate and still remain tied to what they care for most? Note this is not a stand-alone rulebook. Scion: Origin has the necessary core rules for the game.
SCION SECOND EDITION REFERENCE SCREEN - A sturdy three-panel screen featuring beautiful art from Scion 2nd Edition on the outer side, and on the inside there's a selection of charts and other info to make referencing a little bit easier. Choosing Your Reward Tier
There has been some churn over this past week - a few Reward Tier adjustments and changes by backers, as budgets changed and people have seen the game in play. In these final days it's best to ensure that you've selected the Reward Tier that offers you the options and rewards you want to receive and are ready to lock down. This timing - before the campaign ends - is the absolute most affordable and inclusive these rewards will be, and will save headaches and heartbreaks if fully considered now.
WAIT! What about special reward tiers?!
Right! In addition to our "core" Reward Tiers, we've got another area for consideration. These are the Premium Rewards.
These special reward tiers offer some enhanced interaction with the setting, from submitting a name that will be used for a NPC worked into the setting or the opportunity to submit reference photos and serve as an art model for an interior illustration, these options are extremely limited, so grab them while you can!
Check out the Pledge Tier descriptions for more information on these reward tiers and how they'll be handled for this project.
And, if you are a retailer interested in making this available in your store, two special retailer tiers, the Mythos + Dragon Retail and Mythos + Dragon Retail Suite pledge tiers are open to you upon prior approval from Onyx Path (please email [email protected] prior to selecting this reward to confirm your status).
Summary
So, with all of that said - consider your Reward Tier selection. Are you walking along the Mythos or Dragon path, or keeping all options open and following the Dual path? Are you backing to receive your copy of the PDF or hardcover version of these books? Did you want to include the relevant Scion Second Edition core books and choose a Suite tier? Did you jump on one of the limited premium reward options?
Make sure your Reward Tier matches what you're looking for - or, at least, covers most of what you're interested in. Tomorrow, we'll cover Add Ons and talk about how to tweak your Reward List to ensure you're getting anything that might be missing from your list.

Well, we've done it! We've finished up our current list of Stretch Goals... and there are still four days left in the campaign. So, let's add another batch and see if we can't unlock one or two of these before the end!
A reminder, all [DRAGON] goals will automatically be added to backers receiving the Scion: Dragon PDF if we unlock that goal. All [Mythos] goals will automatically be added to backers receiving the Scion: Masks of the Mythos PDF. And [ALL BACKERS] goals will present opportunities that any backer can take advantage of!
With this final round, we're hoping to add another section to the Scion: Dragon Companion PDF, a supplemental book that will automatically be added to the rewards lists for all backers who are walking down the Dragon path.
And then we're looking to add another section to the Scion: Masks of the Mythos Companion PDF, a supplemental book that will similarly be automatically added to the rewards list for all backers who are pursuing the Mythos path.
And finally, as we've just unlocked with the Dragon signature characters, some VTT tokens for Scion: Masks of the Mythos to make online play a little bit easier.

Today, I am going to talk about ADD ON reward options. On Thursday, before the campaign finishes I will post an update with a Final Checklist & What Comes Next.
First Step: Reward Tier
The absolute best way to ensure that you're getting all of the available rewards you want from this kickstarter is to ensure you've selected the appropriate Backer Reward Tier, as detailed in our Reward Tier Update. Selecting the right Reward Tier covers about 95% of the options available to you. If you want a PDF only, make sure you've selected the correct reward. If you want one or both of the hardcover versions, double-check your reward tier to ensure the proper option is featured. If your going digital now but want the option of getting a discounted Print-on-Demand copy later, make sure you've got a reward tier that includes it.
Once you've completed that important step, you're going to want to look at the Add On rewards for any reward "bits" that don't automatically fall into your reward tier. That takes us to the Add On step.
Step Two: Add-Ons.
Once you've chosen your path (Dragon, Mythos, or Dual Path) and then your format (PDF or Hardcover, just new books or including the Scion Second Edition Suite), you've likely already included most of the rewards you want. In addition to the rewards offered as part of the Reward Tier configurations, there are a few other possible rewards you may wish to add. All Add-On rewards will be described below.
Each Add On includes an extra amount to add on to your total pledge amount. Remember that your total pledge amount includes all shipping charges and not just your reward tier level.
I'll use myself as an example here. Whenever a new campaign launches, I usually jump on and back as quickly as possible - this allows me to make comments as a backer, and, you know, I love all this stuff. I typically click the PDF tier because it's near the top and I know for sure I want the PDF reward.
For the previous Scion Second Edition books (Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero), I've now got PDF versions as well as Print-on-Demand versions that I picked up back after the very first kickstarter. I am really into what we've seen from these books, and have decided to go all in and upgrade my pledge to include the hardcover version of both books right up front.
So, with that in mind, my first step in changing from my PDF only pledge to the PDF + hardcover pledge begins with this green button (or maybe a blue button, if you're on a mobile platform):

As noted, the mobile app may be a little sleeker:
And that brings up my current Pledge Tier reward choice and allows me to investigate my options.
I'm going to Change my pledge reward tier. It's that blue button in the corner.
So, it's time to CHANGE MY PLEDGE. On my PC, I select the Change Your Pledge button, while in the mobile app you select the ellipses (...) in the top corner to present options.
I can scroll down or read the kickstarter rewards page to review the list of rewards with my Tier. Since I've decided to ensure I have the hardcovers for both books, the MYTHOS + DRAGON Hardcovers New Book Combo is the way to go.
This gets me what I want... from the core reward offerings, at least. I'm going to look at Add On rewards after this.
Also, thanks to everyone who hasn't pointed out that I missed a "Y" in the MYTHOS part of this reward tier. I ended up typing that word so many times while setting this up that it's lost all meaning. The joy of kickstarter is typos like this get to stay with us forever!
Once I've selected this reward, it displays the Total Pledge Amount before confirming.
The missing Y is for Why Not?
So, my Total includes my Pledge Amount for my reward tier (the minimum is $100 that covers the Mythos + Dragon Hardcovers New Book Combo reward tier) plus shipping if required (it's a bundle, I know, but I'm treating myself after a long long 2020).
Before I hit confirm, though, I know that there's one more change I want to make. While I mentioned that I have PDF copies of Scion: Origin and Scion: Hero, I'm also interested in the supplements. I've previously picked up Mysteries of the World in PDF, but have not yet added the Titanomachy PDF to my digital library.
I note that the Add On cost for the Titanomachy PDF is +$15, so I'm going to add that dollar amount to my total pledge amount to cover the cost of this Add On.
But I also said I'm going to go all in and treat myself. I don't have many vices, but RPGs are a hobby that gives me comfort and is something that's helped me through some of the tougher days over the past year. I've decided to splurge a bit and get both of the new Storyguide Reference Screens. They're +$20 each and can be added on to any reward tier that includes physical books (and thus already has shipping costs included). Since I've upgrade to the dual hardcover path, I will be adding another +$40 to cover these screens.
I just update my total right in the box. Add On options are confirmed in our post-campaign Pledge Manager after the campaign ends.
So, I've selected the Reward Tier that works best for me - MYTHOS + DRAGON Hardcovers New Book Combo - which includes
Scion:Masks of the Mythos PDF + Hardcover
Scion: Dragon PDF + Hardcover
All Unlocked Stretch Goal supplements for [Dragon] and [Mythos]
Discounted Print-on-Demand options for both books
Access to the Manuscript Previews

And then I adjust my total pledge amount to include additional funding to cover my Add On options:

And, since I'm pledging for physical rewards to ship to Canada, my shipping costs are $45. As noted, shipping outside the US has gotten quite expensive, and kickstarter will automatically add on shipping costs at this point.
Reward Tier = $100
Shipping Costs = $45
Add On Total = $55
My total Pledge Amount is $200. Note that this is in US dollars (you can see it's about $253 Canadian, but the final exchange rate will depend on when the payment is processed once we conclude the campaign).
When I've got everything accounted for, I hit continue for one last review.
You can see my initial pledge and then my new pledge. I'm updating from a $40 PDF only pledge to going all in at $200.
If it looks good, I click Confirm (or Updated Pledge or Continue, depending on your browser and interface).
Wow. That was quite a journey! Thanks for coming along with me!
It's important to note that there is NO PLACE in your kickstarter reward tier pledge to indicate which add-ons you wish to include, or give any reason why you are adjusting your pledge to a new amount. You aren't adding items to a shopping cart in this scenario - instead, you're adding pledge dollars that you will assign once the campaign ends. With this in mind, you may want to make a note of which add-on items and the associated add-on dollar amounts you've included if you're forgetful like I am.
About a month after the campaign has ended and Kickstarter has processed your payment, I will send out a survey via Backerkit - a complex system of tools used to manage the back-end of the kickstarter fulfillment process. When you receive the survey, you will confirm your Backer Reward Tier and assign your pledged dollars to any add-on items that you wish to include. I'll repeat and expand on this information in an upcoming post about "What Happens Next?" in Thursday's update.
DIGITAL REWARDS
In addition to the rewards listed in each Reward Tier, backers can increase their overall pledge to add on the following additional rewards. Simply increase your total pledge amount by the value indicated – we will confirm which add on rewards you’ve chosen via BackerKit surveys after the campaign has run (we'll talk about that more on Thursday, before the campaign ends).
Remember the first step in finalizing your pledge should be to check to see if any reward tiers include all of the books you want. Scion: Masks of the Mythos, Scion: Dragon, Scion: Origin, and Scion: Hero are all included in various configurations in the different Pledge Tiers.
PHYSICALREWARDS
All physical items that will require shipping (additional books, Storyguide screens) can only be added to reward tiers that already include either a hardcover copy of Scion:Dragon or Scion: Masks of the Mythos (or both!). Your rewards will be sent in a single shipment when the book becomes available.
For US Residents, you can add to your pledge total to receive the following physical rewards

For those of us who are non-US Residents, our costs are tweaked a bit to cover additional shipping expenses:
And, one more time - remember to check the Pledge Reward Tier to see if your desired rewards are covered first before moving to Add Ons. Scion: Origin is already included in the Dragon and Mythos Suite pledge tiers, so no need to add it to either of those! Scion: Hero is already included in the Mythos Suite pledge tier, so no need to double up there.
REWARD DELIVERY
About 6 weeks after the campaign has ended, I'll launch our post-campaign Pledge Manager to collect information from all backers and confirm which rewards you'll be receiving. At this point, you'll also confirm which Add On Rewards you've paid for. Once we have that information, I'll be able to deliver any rewards that are currently available - like the PDF versions of Scion: Origin, Scion: Hero, Scion: Mysteries of the World, and Titanomachy. Backers who have pledged for these options will be sent special redemption links to claim these digital rewards from our partners at DriveThruRPG.com. Clicking these redemption links will allow you to add these PDF titles to your digital library to download anytime. I'll send an update when all of that is happening, though, so you are aware every step of the way.
So, while it will take some time for Scion:Dragon and Scion: Masks of the Mythos to move from manuscript form to a final product, you won't be waiting a year for PDFs that already exist. (You'll be waiting about 6-8 weeks or so, just enough time for us to set up the reward infrastructure.)
Physical Books
It's going to take some time to create the final PDFs for Scion:Dragon and Scion: Masks of the Mythos and even longer for the eventual print runs for these books. When the books are at the printer, I will be in touch with all kickstarter backers and go over lockdown procedures and confirming addresses one final time. But that's a long time away, and we'll cover all of that as we get closer to that part of the process.
Don't fret if you had forgotten to increase your pledge amount to cover an Add On by the end of the campaign. These Add Ons will be available to select in our post-campaign Pledge Manager for those who participated in our campaign and have full access to the Pledge Manager. So, if you are undecided at this time, you will be able to hold off until we're closer to the final reward shipment goes out.
Add Ons AFTER Reward Tiers
Again, your first step should always be choosing the proper reward tier.
