We're a few days away from Halloween, so time for our regular month end update! Before I review where we stand in the Scion world, I wanna share this in case anyone was thinking of playing some fun and spooky Storypath system games in keeping with the mood of the weekend!

Sliding to the end of September, and time for another of our month end check in updates.

It's not a coincidence that the update is coming out today... because there's also a fun Scion Second Edition project available today! Part of Onyx Path's monthly Tasty Bits program adding small rules and setting supplements to their various Storypath system games.

Scion: Car Competition

Automobiles are entrenched in The World’s culture, and they’ve changed travel forever. The Gods are not immune to the changing culture, and many Scions have incorporated it into their legends, pushing themselves to interact creatively with vehicles. The Scions of Hephaestus had a particular attraction to vehicles, often modifying them beyond the human capability for speed or maneuverability.

These and other interested Scions often come together for competitions and test racing or craftmanship. Car culture is so popular with certain Scions that they developed a game based on them. The game is sometimes called “The Autocracy,” which a few Scions think is a hilarious pun, while others consider the joke to be in poor taste. Most just call it “the competition.”

The competition consists of multiple ways for Scions to play with vehicles when they are together and an opportunity to tell legendary tales of their feats. Powerlift a car in the middle of a battle and use it like a baseball bat? Throw a truck a mile to take out an enemy running away? Did you trick out a motorcycle to make it a Relic? How are those driving skills?

All of these are ways in which Scions try to outdo each other. Some prefer the heat of battle for their moment of glory, some choose to express themselves through nuanced storytelling in their cars’ design, others weave tales of impressive feats or clever uses of vehicles, and still others hone their skills of repairing or modifying the internal machines and external bodywork. Creativity, originality, and innovation are the central ideas of the competition.

Hello Heirs & Salutations Squamous Scions,

Hello Heroes and Good Day Demigods,

Last month, I talked a bit about the work being done to pitch a Scion TV series, with a cool image of one of the props created to help sell the property and establish the look of the show. Now I've got a bit more to share, with the What's Up With Onyx Path panel from the recent Onyx Path Virtual Gaming Convention from a few weeks back.

Brian Jenkins from Jenkins and Tate Entertainment, the team behind the development of Scion for TV, dropped in to talk about work on the project, his love for Scion and other tabletop RPGS, and other cool stuff.

And while I'm sharing videos, let's expand the scope a bit , since the Scion Second Edition game uses Onyx Path's Storypath sytem, I wanted to share the Storypath Q&A Panel, which features Danielle Lauzon, Ian A. A. Watson, Catie Griffin,  Neall Raemonn Price, and Eddy Webb to discuss various aspects of the Storypath system and how it varies through different game lines.

You'll see the Onyx Path team shine the spotlight on Storypath a bit more in the next while. In addition to the Tasty Bits mini-supplements they've been releasing, they're introducing a new streamed series that they're calling Storypath Showcase.

From the latest Onyx Path Monday Meeting Notes:

Storypath Showcase is a new actual play anthology series that presents games using the Storypath System though short, exciting, and digestible story arcs. Beginning with Trinity Continuum: Aberrant, this show presents a session zero detailing character creation followed by a 2-4 episode arc. When an arc is completed, the show moves to a new setting with a new cast. Storypath Showcase gives the viewer the opportunity to learn about our many worlds and see the Storypath System in action. The sessions are prerecorded so the Storyguide and some cast members will be in the chat to answer questions or talk about the stream’s events.
This Saturday, join us at 6 PM EDT for Aberrant Episode 1: Dead Drop, in which Team Tonight’s bench roster is activated to investigate the murder of a Project Utopia operative who was undercover with the Megasyndicate. If you missed the Session Zero stream, don’t worry! It’s available to Twitch subscribers on VOD and will be on the OnyxPath YouTube channel soon!

Hello Heirs & Salutations Squamous Scions,

As mentioned last month, Onyx Path recently had their 2021 Virtual Gaming Convention, which was full of cool panels and fun Actual Play sessions streamed online for fans. There were two cool panels that I hope to be able to share with you in a future update - the Scion panel (of course), and the What's Up with Onyx Path? panel that featured a big talk about the development of the Scion TV series.

Rich was kind enough to grab a picture of one of the production props for the Scion pitch - a model of Giantsbane from the cover of Scion: Hero.

Rich notes that this is a resin model, so not a working metal prop like they would use in the show, and in his hand it seems to match the size of the gun in the cover art we all know and love! They would actually create one that could stand up to the rigors of using it on set, and even be rigged for special effects. Although I imagine that any lightning bolt effects would be added as CGI.

And, flipping back to our discussion of the convention, I wanted to share this awesome Actual Play that should be of interest to backers from our campaign.

Rather than playing characters from Scion: Dragon or Scion: Masks of the Mythos... this session does both! It's two great tastes in one, with Scion: Dragon VS Masks of the Mythos! I love that, flipping the idea a bit and smashing our two books together. Fun stuff. I'll share the two panels next month if I'm able.
