Latest Updates from Our Project:

Reward Distribution: Scion: Dragon Jumpstart
7 months ago – Thu, Aug 31, 2023 at 07:40:47 AM

Good Day, Dragons!

I know that the August update has already gone out, but I couldn't leave the month without one more update! Because it's reward time!

During the campaign, we unlocked a Scion: Dragon jumpstart supplemental PDF which was added to the rewards list of all backers receiving the Scion: Dragon PDF as one of their rewards. And now it's time to send it out!

LIVE BY THE BLADE

An agent of Kazim-Azizi has acquired an ancient relic — the Sword of Damocles — and intends to bring it to the History Gorger’s lair and add it to the Dragon’s menu.

A group of Heirs (the player characters) have the skills and talents necessary to steal the weapon back, and keep it in The World a little longer. Kazim-Azizi’s agent is going where even Scions fear to tread: to the island of Lemuria, where the light of forgotten stars shines on long-lost soldiers and missing wonders.

Allies and enemies aren’t always what they seem, and there’s always room for a double-cross. In this jumpstart, the characters must track down the Sword of Damocles and retrieve it before the Maw of Lethe devours the weapon, but the Dragon’s Heirs have plans of their own.

This jumpstart adventure includes everything you need to play a full game of Scion: Dragon:

  • A complete story designed to be played in one long session or over the course of several sessions.
  • Five ready-to-play Dragon characters.
  • Condensed Storypath core rules to help facilitate Storyguides running the game.

REWARD DISTRIBUTION

If this PDF was on your list of rewards, your link to claim your Live by the Blade Advance PDF will be sent out by our BackerKit pledge manager over the next day. Since we are using our partners at DriveThruRPG as the host for this, you will need to set up a DriveThru account if you don't have one already. If you encounter any problems with downloading your rewards, please contact DTRPG's customer service to resolve the matter, they've always been top-rated for customer service. http://www.drivethrurpg.com/contact_us.php

Again, you will receive an e-mail from BackerKit with links for this reward over the next 24 hours if it is on your expected list of rewards.

The easiest way to see if you've got digital downloads available is to login to your backerkit account:

https://scion-dragon-and-masks.backerkit.com/backer/digital_rewards and it'll show anything available. Your backerkit account should also confirm all rewards that you should expect from your reward tier selected.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://scion-dragon-and-masks.backerkit.com

ADVANCE PDF VERSION

This is the first version of Live by the Blade to be released. The design and development teams have done their best to proofread and correct any errors and typos - but some always sneak through. If you catch any typos, incorrect math, visual glitches, and the like, we want to hear about them and correct them before we send the book off to print.

With that in mind, I'd like to introduce the Scion: Dragon Jumpstart Feedback Form!

Onyx Path has launched a special Live by the Blad Feedback Form, which you can access here: https://forms.gle/QdQEJdkBioUUow6C8

Share your feedback directly with the writers and developers using this form.

They are aware of the Page XX notations - those are left in to replace for the final version once any changes you've suggested are made, so they can reference the correct page if any shifts in layout result.

Onxy Path will keep errata collection open for the next week. Please submit your feedback as soon as possible so the team can get on to finalizing this file!

They won't be collecting errata from other spots, just this specific form.

After any needed corrections are made (based on your feedback!), they will prepare an updated final PDF version of the book and you will receive a notice from DrivethruRPG that you can re-download your file with the latest version.

You've already made the book a reality with your Kickstarter support. Now you can make it even better by helping us crowdsource any minor errors and corrections.

SO: Look for your reward email over the next 24 hours, or check your BackerKit page to see your digital reward redemption links. Review the advance PDF and submit any feedback you have, and let's make this book as awesome as possible!

TITANS RISING

As mentioned in our August month end update, Onyx Path has launched the Kickstarter campaign for the latest Scion Second Edition release - Titans Rising!

Titans Rising builds on the foundations of Scion: Titanomachy, explaining the grand conflict between the Gods and Titans. It delves into the very heart of Titanhood, revealing that some Titans truly are just misunderstood and that conflict based on whom someone’s parents are is problematic at best. The book presents Titanic Scions — not just as playable characters, but as heroes, despite their bitter conflicts with some of Scion's more established names, like Eric Donner, Yukiko Kuromizu, and Little Mao. Can your game’s Scions repair the rift between Gods and Titans? How many Titans are better than their reputation and which Gods are worse than theirs? Whom can your Scions trust and whom must be destroyed once and for all?

Titans Rising looks hard at Titans, their Scions, and their servants as one side in the war, fleshing out the conflict between these two divine factions and delving into the heart of what it means to be the Offspring of a Titan. It includes rules for playing Titanic Scions, profiles of characters and creatures to fight against or alongside, and an in-depth look at how to use the Second Titanomachy in your Scion game.

  • Rules for creating Titanic Scions at Origin, Hero, Demigod, and God-tier, including over 50 new Knacks and 60 Birthrights.
  • Profiles and agendas for 50 Titans to use as foes or progenitors.
  • 46 new Antagonists to challenge characters from pre-Visitation to post-Apotheosis.
  • 27 ready-to-use story seeds, suitable for standalone stories or short arcs.

In all respects, Titans Rising fits into the Scion core setting, exploring material from the main four books of Origin, Hero, Demigod, and God.  Oh, and Titanomachy, of course.

BUT - between you and me - one of the included ready-to-play Characters is Kōei Māhoe, an Okinawan/Hawaiian Scion of Kuna who has no where she belongs, thanks to her selfish father and her tempestuous half-sister Yukiko Kuromizu. Mechanically, Kōei is a Dragon Heir with the Destroyer Calling.

So don't think Titans Rising won't work for your Scion: Dragon campaign. It absolutely works if you want it to! And some of the seeds have already been planted for you to grow further!

Titans Rising funded in just over 12 hours and is now unlocking Stretch Goals. Our first goal added a new adventure scenario using the Ready-Made characters from the book (including Kōei Māhoe!) or your own characters. Like the scenario in Live by the Sword, it will be designed to kick off a chronicle of your own...

Of course, our next Stretch Goal target expands on this starting scenario, further introducing your heroes to the World and setting up plot hoods for other ongoing adventures.

If you back Titans Rising and have the PDF on your list of rewards, you'll automatically have this Titans Rising adventure supplement added to your rewards list. And as more backers join, we may unlock more Stretch Goals and expand this reward even further.

Plus - as we did with Scion: Dragon - backers are able to read the entire draft manuscript over the course of the campaign.

Anyway, that's a long way of getting to this point - if you'd like to join in, you can find the campaign here: http://kck.st/3Pgf4JD

Join in and get some BIG antagonists for your Dragon Scions to confront!

TO CONTACT JAMES

I'll be back next month with our regular month end update. I'll have the updated rewards tracking list, with one reward - our Scion: Dragon companion - the last reward for this campaign in the works. In the meantime, if you've got a question about your pledge or BackerKit page or any part of the process, you can contact me with any of these methods

  • Via E-Mail: Onyx.Kickstarter [at] gmail.com
  • Via Kickstarter: Click Richard Thomas under the "Created By" heading on the main page, and then press the "Contact Me" button - the message will come to me!

August '23 Update
7 months ago – Wed, Aug 23, 2023 at 11:57:30 AM

Hello Mythos Dragons,

It's 23-08-23 and that seems like a good indicator to post a monthly update. I've got our regular update for the month and then a note about the next big Scion Second Edition project coming soon to Kickstarter.

STRETCH GOAL REWARDS STILL PENDING

We had some preview artwork from the Jumpstart for Scion: Dragon last month, and we can see that it's now in proofing so hopefully won't be too much longer. I'll send an update with distribution information as soon as it's ready for you!

REWARDS DISTRIBUTED TO BACKERS

TITANS RISING

The First Titanomachy concluded millennia ago, with the Gods climbing over the shattered bodies of their foes to claim the thrones of the Overworlds. The defeated Titans lay buried beneath the World or imprisoned by the war’s victors. But Titans have always lived by their own terms, and those do not include staying dead or in chains. One by one, Titans claw their way back up from their prisons and Underworlds. This time, they gather in shadows, growing in strength and numbers.

It is only a matter of time before the struggle between the Titans and the Gods lunges from the shadows, setting entire Realms ablaze and even spilling out into the World.

That time draws nigh.

Now is the time of Titans Rising.

Beyond moral quandaries, Titans Rising also opens wide the doors of player options for Titanic characters, including new ways to engage in high level gameplay as leaders of a besieging army who seek to reclaim their homeland from the Gods. And for games fighting on the Gods’ side of the Titanomachy, there are numerous plot seeds, adversaries, and Birthrights to be used against the Titans and their Scions.

Indeed, as noted, Titans Rising builds upon the foundation laid out in Titanomachy. As as Rich noted in the recent Monday Meeting Notes,

This Kickstarter is so that we can traditionally print Titanomachy and also its sequel: Titans Rising! TR is entirely new to y’all, and of course, Titanomachy has already been a smash-hit in PDF and PoD versions on DTRPG! It got such a great response that we figure that getting it traditionally printed and into stores along with its sequel will give a whole ‘nother audience a chance to check them out!

And for that, we need this Kickstarter campaign (where you can pledge for both books or either of them) that starts next week!

You can sign up and be sure to get notified before it goes live right here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/200664283/titans-rising-and-titanomachy-for-scion-2nd-edition-rpg

Just to give you folks a little idea of what’s actually in Titans Rising, here are some thoughts from two of the book’s developers:

DAVID CASTRO: Titans Rising will bring the titans of pantheons from Demigod, God, Once and Future, and Masks of the Mythos to fans, giving them the full length and breadth of the World and its antagonists. It provides rules for Titanic Scions at the Demigod and God levels of play, and explores the implications of the Second Titanomachy on the World, and on your games both as a player and as a Story Guide. All in all, Titans Rising provides options for all player options, regardless of which side of the Titanomachy they find themselves on.

CAT EVANS: Playable Titans. Playable Titans, Playable Titans, playable Titans. Play them at any tier! Play them as heroes, monsters, or complicated, multifaceted individuals! Play them in the chapter of story hooks and tracks we’ve provided, or weave them into your ongoing games. Give them new Callings, Birthrights and Knacks.  Most of all, play them to finally call the Gods on their bullshit.

Hope that piques your curiosity and you’ll join us on Tuesday the 29th!

Hello Mythos Dragons,

It's Scion Update Day. No major news to share, just the regular incremental progress. I do have one indication that things are progressing along nicely... an artwork sneak peek! From the upcoming Scion: Dragon jumpstart PDF, our first peek behind the curtain...

CURRENTLY CROWDFUNDING

We've Funded and are now unlocking Stretch Goals! Click to join in!

Trinity Continuum: Aegis is a game of epic adventure and exploration set during Greece’s Iron Age. The setting features figures and events from history and mythology, viewed through the lens of the Trinity Continuum. In this game you’ll play Champions, Oracles, and Olympians — characters who have come into contact with the mysterious substance called ambrosia and been transformed into Inspired individuals with powers similar to Talents, Psiads, and Novas millennia ahead of their counterparts’ times. These characters live in an age of wonder and discovery. People in the ancient world made amazing strides in science, exploration, and philosophy, all while grappling (sometimes literally!) with gods and monsters. About a decade ago, bright streaks flashed across the sky and a fiery object crashed into Mount Olympus. Other pieces landed throughout the world, creating heroes and horrors wherever they touched down.

Trinity Continuum: Aegis continues to explore the Trinity Continuum’s themes of hope, sacrifice, and unity — in an age where societies are in decline and survival sometimes feels uncertain, these are the tenets under which people band together.

June '23 Update: Onyx Path Con Panels
9 months ago – Tue, Jun 27, 2023 at 08:18:52 AM

Hello Mythos Dragons,

We're in the final days of June, so time for our regular update. We'll have a quick check-in on our final two rewards near the end of this post, but I wanted to share video from two panels that came of out the 4th Annual Onyx Path Virtual Gaming Convention held a few weeks ago.

First up, we'll dig right into the Scion panel! If you wanna know what's going on with Scion at Onyx Path, here's the info, with Hiromi Cota, Coyote Crow, Spider B. Perry, and Geoffrey M!

And secondly, to widen to a more general system discussion, here's the Storypath Q&A panel to learn more about the refinements and evolution of the system that powers Scion. This has Onyx Path big brains Danielle Lauzon, Eddy Webb, and Matthew Dawkins.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://scion-dragon-and-masks.backerkit.com

STRETCH GOAL REWARDS STILL PENDING

Our Dragon jumpstart has moved into preliminary layout, so things are slowly trucking along.

LAUNCHING THURSDAY

Launching Thrusday! Click here and sign up to be notified when it goes live!

Onyx Path has confirmed the name of the next game in the They Came From… series: They Came from the RPG Anthology! This one’s a little different than the rest though, and the clue’s in the title. This newest They Came From… isn’t another single genre piece, but a compilation of multiple genres, spanning the big screen, the small screen, the stage, and possibly even more besides!

Why “possibly”? Well, when our Kickstarter campaign launches, one of the first things you’ll likely read about is the polls we’ll be running throughout its duration. Every Monday another poll, and every poll adding a new genre to the book. They Came from the RPG Anthology! already includes:

  • They Came from Cowboy’s Gulch! (Westerns)
  • They Came from the Mean Streets! (Noir)
  • They Came from Bridgton Rectory! (Costume Dramas)
  • They Came from the Interstellar Starship! (Space Opera)
  • They Came from the Bard’s Quill! (Shakespearean Plays)

But we’ll be adding a further four chapters (at least) to this book from a selection of options you get to vote on!

That’s not all though. They Came From the RPG Anthology! provides two new system offerings for our loyal audiences:

  • The Quick Play System is a condensed, streamlined, and – as the name implies – quick system you can use for all your games of They Came From! So if you find the current system too complex for your games, you’ll enjoy this slimline version of character creation and the accompanying rules.
  • The Storypath Ultra System is the updated version of our existing Storypath System present in games such as They Came from Beneath the Sea!, Trinity Continuum, Scion, and Dystopia Rising: Evolution, and They Came From the RPG Anthology! is the first place you’ll find it in print! So if you’re interested in the future of Storypath, this is the campaign to back.

As always we’ll have a wide range of backer levels and stretch goals, so we hope you get involved with our campaign! See you Thursday, May 25th at 2:00 PM Eastern Time!
